Safety Restraint Systems

Key Safety Systems specializes in optimizing bio-mechanical performance in the vehicle through integrating all the restraint system components to meet the total system performance objectives set by the customer and the relevant worldwide vehicle safety standards. To support this growing business, Key Safety Systems has two Systems Integration and Performance facilities, in Detroit, Michigan and Frankfurt, Germany.

As restraint system design is increasing in complexity due to the introduction of advanced systems from various suppliers, Key Safety Systems will integrate all the restraint products including those we don’t manufacture. This can be as simple as providing support and simulation services through to complete management of the total vehicle integration.

The design of restraint systems, even at a component level, requires a complete knowledge of the total system performance, gained via various testing and simulation techniques. The systems development is completed with the use of numerical simulation and testing to confirm simulation results. To support this Key Safety Systems uses all the industry standard software including Madymo, Pam-Crash, LS-Dyna3D, MSC Dytran, Motionview, Hypermesh, Easi-Mad, Easi-Crash and Abaqus. In addition Key Safety Systems was responsible for the technical development of the Madymo AutoDOE tool currently being distributed by TNO. The use of this software has produced a 50% reduction in the number of dynamic sled tests needed to design airbag and seatbelt systems to meet the latest NHTSA requirements.
